Bruce Hamilton (b. 1966, Philadelphia) composes and performs music across a wide variety of genres, exploring eclectic styles and genre hybrids. Active as a percussionist, improviser, and electronic musician for over 35 years, his work is published by Non Sequitur Music and featured on over a dozen labels. He has received honors, awards, and project support from organizations including ALEA III, AMC, ASCAP, PAS, the Barlow Endowment, Carbondale Community Arts, Indiana University, the Jerome Foundation, the National Society of Arts and Letters, Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, Exit 9, Whatcom Symphony, the Russolo-Pratella Foundation, and SEAMUS.

His music is widely performed internationally, with appearances at NYCEMF, NWEAMO, ICMC, Friends of Rain, Electronic Music Midwest, the JMU Contemporary Music Festival, Third Practice Festival, SEAMUS, Festival Sonica, Arts NOW, and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Current projects include a new work for the Galan Trio (Athens) to be premiered in November 2026, and an upcoming commission for Hypercube (NYC) slated for a Spring 2027 premiere. Other recent commissions include pieces for KOMPULZ (Slovenia), Iktus Duo (NYC), and a double concerto for the INVERSE percussion duo (Luxembourg). In March 2024, he toured Europe with percussionist Max Gaertner, performing Chasing Alignment, a duo for Lumatone and percussion. Significant collaborative projects also include works created with choreographer Liz Gerring and filmmaker/choreographer Susan Haines.

Since 2020, Hamilton has released art rock albums under the moniker Jostaberry and is currently developing an experimental pop project with G.T. Thomas (Scrap Fiasco). An active educator, he has presented masterclasses and lectures globally, including European appearances in Dinkelsbuhl, Dudelange, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Ljubljana, Munich, Namur, Salzburg, and Strasbourg, as well as U.S. engagements in Bloomington, Carbondale, Greensboro, Harrisonburg, Olympia, Portland, and Seattle.

A graduate of Indiana University (BM, MM, DM), Hamilton is Professor of Music at Western Washington University. He is a co-organizer of the Sound Culture Adventures Festival, the Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival, and the Microtonal Adventures Festival. Additionally, he runs the Spectropol experimental netlabel and has served on the boards of Make.Shift, UnTwelve, the Bellingham Alternative Library, and the Washington Composers Forum.
